From Soil to Scalp, From Heritage to Healing

By Carine Mbembi Whyte — Oxford Biomedical Scientist, Trichologist & Founder of AfroHairCandy

Some knowledge does not belong to one person.

It belongs to a lineage. To a village. To the grandmothers who knew which plant healed, which oil nourished and which root strengthened — long before laboratories existed to explain why. It has been passed from hand to hand, from kitchen to kitchen, from generation to generation across Central Africa for centuries.

Until now it has never been written down. Rooted in Nature is the book that Carine Mbembi Whyte spent 22 years living before she spent months writing. Born in the Bandundu village and tribe of the Democratic Republic of Congo, educated in Biomedical Sciences and Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Oxford, specialised in healing herbs at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa — Carine is the bridge between what our ancestors knew instinctively and what science can now prove.

This book is that bridge, written down.

WHAT IS INSIDE:
Part One — The Science of Natural Hair The biology of hair and scalp explained in plain language by a qualified trichologist and cellular biologist. What happens at the follicle level. Why inflammation, tension and the wrong ingredients silently damage hair over years. What natural ingredients do at the cellular level that synthetic ones cannot. The science your hairdresser was never taught.

Part Two — The Heritage The African botanical traditions that mainstream beauty has borrowed without credit for decades. The ancient recipes, the generational knowledge, the cultural practices that have kept natural hair healthy across the continent for centuries. Where Chebe comes from. What Bulukutu does. Why wild honey from the Congo rainforest is not the same as honey from a supermarket shelf.

Part Three — The Sourcing What it means to truly know where your ingredients come from. Carine's personal journey across 17 African countries — the farms, the farmers, the fields. What she has seen, what she has refused to compromise on and why the distance between a Congolese shea nut tree and a glass jar in your bathroom matters more than any label claim.

Part Four — The Practice How to build a hair care routine that is genuinely rooted in nature — specific to your hair type, your scalp concern and your life. The LOC method. The role of the scalp. The difference between moisture and hydration. How to read an ingredient list and know immediately whether a product belongs on a living scalp.

This is not a book you read once.

It is a book you return to. A book your daughter reads after you. A book that carries knowledge that was almost lost — preserved in print so it cannot be lost again.

Over 300 pages. Every copy signed by Carine personally. Every order includes a complimentary African Herbal Tea Sampler — Bulukutu, Hibiscus and Congolese Eucalyptus Leaf. The same ingredients in your products, now in your cup. This is what we mean when we say: if you cannot eat it, it does not belong on your hair.

FORMATS:

A5 Softback — £75 A beautifully produced soft cover edition. Over 300 pages. Perfect for daily reading, note-taking and returning to. Ships within 4 weeks of order.

A4 Hardback — Gold Leaf Edition — £150 The collector's edition. Hardback cover. A4 format. Over 300 pages with gold leaf page edging. An heirloom in the truest sense of the word. Ships within 4 weeks of order.

Both formats include a personal signature from Carine and a complimentary African Herbal Tea Sampler with every order. This book was 22 years in the living and months in the writing. It belongs on your shelf. And one day — on your daughter's.
